Creating the Narrative: Science Communication for Conservation
Monday, October 23, 2017 - WTCC - 6pm
Building on the success of the communications panel discussion at SMM2015, we will be continuing the discussion of the importance of communicating science, but shifting the conversation to the idea of “how” we go about accomplishing this.
Join us for an exciting evening of expert discussion on the successes and failures of communicating science for conservation. Be sure to stick around for a social mixer following the event with free drinks and food.
Tuesday, October 24, 2017 - WTCC - 7pm
Who doesn’t love to celebrate Canada? Or better yet, the amazing marine mammals that call Canada home? On the evening of Tuesday, October 24th, you’ll get to do both as we’re hosting A Canadian Celebration!
Our goal is to inspire a fascination for marine mammals and an appreciation for Canada’s contribution to the field in a format inclusive for both conference attendees and the public; primarily via a visual display and storytelling. We have a range of exciting panelists who will share stories on the Canadian marine mammal species they’ve been fortunate to study including Sara Iverson, Lance Barrett-Lennard, Andrew Trites, Bernd Würsig, Valeria Vergara and more!
Following the panel, we’ll invite a larger group of people from the audience to join our panelists to face off in the Great Marine Mammal Trivia Game! Honour, glory and bragging rights will be up for grabs!

Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - Maritime Museum of the Atlantic - 6:30pm
