I'm a member of SMM. How do I register for the conference?

If you are a member of SMM, be sure to sign-in to your SMM account before continuing to register for the conference. Doing so will allow you to access to member rates for registration.  


Help! I'm having sign-in trouble and I want to register for the conference.

This is probably a “cookies” or caching problem in your browsing software. Empty the cache/cookies in your web browsing software.

Another possibility is that one of the extra toolbars or browser add-ons is causing an unexpected problem. You might try registering using another browser.

  1. Open a new browser
  2. Click here and sign in under the SMM account you wish to be associated with your registration
  3. Once you are signed in, navigate to
  4. Sign in, either using the log in name and password you have already created to submit an abstract or, if you have not submitted an abstract and would like to register for the conference, create your log in and password
  5. Follow the steps to register for the conference. Note: Your registration is not complete until full payment has been made and received.

Help! I'm a member of SMM, but I cannot see the member rates when I register for the conference?

If you are a member of SMM and unable to see member rates when registering, then you might have missed a step in logging in through your SMM account. You may now be selected as both member and non-member in the online system. Not to worry! Please contact our registration team for help resolving this issue.


How much does it cost?

Registration fees vary depending on a several variables including when you register (i.e. early bird, regular or onsite registration) and whether or not you are a member of the Society for Marine Mammalogy. Conference registration is significantly more affordable for members of the Society for Marine Mammalogy. All are welcome to become members of the Society. Join or renew your Society membership here.


When is the early bird deadline for registration?

Sign up before 12PM (noon) July 13, 2017 to receive a $10o USD early bird discount on your conference registration. 


I've recently graduated. Can I still register as a 'student'?

If you are no longer a student, but are planning on presenting work at the conference that you conducted as a student, and you graduated less than one year ago, then you can still register as a student! You will also be considered for student awards. 

Note: A letter from your professor/institute verifying that you completed the work you will be presenting as a student will be required.


What about cancellations and refunds? Is there a cancellation policy?

There will be a $100 USD handling fee for cancellations prior to July 13, 2017. After July 14, 2017, there will be no refunds. Registrations are non-transferable. Requests for refunds must be submitted to and refunds will be issued to the same method of payment used to secure payment.


Does the reduced conference member rate apply to associate and full members?

Yes! The reduced conference member rate does apply to associate members as well as full members
