In 2015, 234 student travel grants were allocated for the SMM conference, totalling over $97,000 in grants.

To apply, applicants need to be:

  1. a student by the time of abstract submission;
  2. submit an abstract for presentation;
  3. tick a box in the abstract submission form saying they wanted to apply for a grant.

The SMM Student Members-at-Large received a record number of applications (468), and managed to award 234 grants across three funding rounds. All students from developing countries were awarded a student travel grant. Students from developed countries were awarded student travel grants based on a lottery system. The amount awarded to each individual was based on: 1) travel distance and flight costs from their hometowns to the conference location; 2) whether the applicants were based in a developed or developing country.
