FAMILIES AT SMM2024
Families are welcome to the 25th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals.
Whether you are attending the conference with dependent children or travelling with family and extending your stay in Western Australia beyond the conference program, we are committed to helping you plan and have a successful trip.
We are currently fundraising for a professional creche that would be open during the conference program. We will let you know if we meet our targets to make this a reality!
PERTH WITH KIDS
Perth is a child friendly city where you feel welcome to bring your child everywhere you go. Cafés and restaurants offer children’s menus and sell babyccinos (Yes! Frothed milk, sometimes with chocolate, and a marshmallow on the side) and indoor and outdoor playgrounds are scattered across the city. Elizabeth Quay, directly opposite the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre where the conference is held, has a fantastic playground and an outdoor water play park nestled between cafés and restaurants. A ferry ride from here will take you across the river to the Perth Zoo and a short walk to the public library and museum, both which have great interactive programs for children. If you venture a bit further, you find the science museum, Perth mint, animal park and many amazing child friendly beaches along the coast.
ACCOMMODATIONS
We have carefully chosen our conference accommodation to include the Nesuto Mounts Bay Perth Apartment Hotel and Quest Mounts Bay Road. These hotels are great for families and are only a short walk from the conference venue. There is also ample parking (paid) directly under the Perth Exhibition and Conference Centre should you be travelling by car.

CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference venue and all the rooms are easily accessible with a pram and most toilets are equipped with a baby changing station. There is a carers room with a small kitchenette that has a fridge and a microwave, toilet, shower, chairs and a small toddler play area. Additionally, we will provide another space for carers to look after their children with a space for those who would like privacy while breastfeeding their child. Carers looking after a conference participant’s minor will be provided access throughout the venue.
