FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The NEW early bird registration deadline is end of day Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
Is there a cancellation and/or refund policy?

I’ve recently graduated. Can I still register as a ‘student’?
If you are no longer a student, but are planning on presenting work at the conference that you conducted as a student, and you graduated less than one year ago, then you can submit an abstract and register as a student! You will also be considered for student awards.
Note: A letter from your professor/institute verifying that you completed the work you will be presenting as a student will be required.
I’m under the age of 18. Can I still register and attend the conference?
The SMM Board has established the following policy regarding the active participation of minors (attendees under 18 years old) at the Conference. This policy has been put into place to assure that all presentations will be led by adults, which was the assumption of the abstract review process.
The for Attendance of Minors is as follows:
- All presentations (Oral talks, Speed talks, Poster, etc.) during the SMM2024 are to be led by an adult. A minor can assist with the presentation.
- Underage assistants must always be with an accompanying adult when they are at the Conference.
- All accompanying adults of minors have to pay full registration for the conference.
How do I know if I qualify for a low income country registration?
Registration options are determined by SMM membership status. Members originally from low income countries who are living and working in high income countries on an equivalent salary to local nationals, should consider themselves to be “high income”. Conversely, members originally from high income countries but who are working in low income countries on a low income salary equivalent to that received by nationals, can consider themselves to be “low income”. The membership rate is a reflection on an ability to pay rather than place of birth.
How do I request a VISA letter so that I can travel to the conference?
After you have completed payment for your conference registration, please email conference@marinemammalscience.org and we can send you an official SMM2024 invitation letter to attached with your travel documentation.
